Our Story

Huddersfield Mission is in the heart of Huddersfield

We provide a range of services to the local community and particularly vulnerable people in the town centre of Huddersfield. The Mission serves the Huddersfield town-centre by providing a venue for meetings, classes and events for the general public in the Huddersfield area and acts as a hub for people on the margins of society. Many of our Café customers have multiple and complex needs.

From 1st September 2014 The work of the Mission is governed by Huddersfield Mission, rather than the Church. However the Mission building is still the home of a worshiping community - New Life Church @ the Mission (see “Church” in Navigation Menu).  Huddersfield Mission is charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) registered with the Charity Commission in England no. 1156590. Our work is all falls within our four part vision:

  • We are a community facility for local people.

  • We provide support, advice and affordable food

  • We are both a voice for the voiceless and a space for dialogue.

  • We are a worshiping community

The Mission is a busy community resource with over 1,000 users per week; about 120 organisations meet here regularly throughout the year; in 2012-13 over 2,000 sessions were booked involving 6,500 hours of room usage.

The Café serves nutritious meals at affordable prices. It is used by people attending meetings in the building and by vulnerable people for whom it provides a safe, warm and supportive environment. We serve 70-100 customers each weekday.

The Evening Café is open on week nights from January to March. It is used by around 40-50 customers seeking warmth and social contact.

Advice is available on a wide range of issues and in the past year 700 people have benefited from around 2250 advice sessions, especially those affected by recent changes to welfare benefits.

Our Voice work includes host a Fairtrade Fair each year in Fairtrade Fortnight, hosting public events that explore issues such poverty, or society and our work with other voluntary sector partners.
