We're so grateful to the Brighouse Inner Wheel girls for donating £400.00 to us for Street First Aid training for those of our staff and volunteers who want to take part.
Street First Aid is different from regular First Aid in several ways. Common ailments might include infected wounds, trenchfoot, stab or slash wounds, bites or even hypothermia. Patients also need to be treated differently and there is an increased risk of hepatitis for the first aider.
There are a variety reasons why people who are rough sleeping might not want to go to a hospital or other medical setting. They might be frightened or embarrassed about their situation, or more likely they simply can't afford to get there.
For us to be able to provide first aid in the Town Centre for our customers when they really need it will be a huge comfort to many of them and will prevent them from developing further complications and potentially more serious effects further down the line.
Club President, Janet Lawrence, said "We are delighted to be able to donate this money to such a worthy cause. We were made to feel so welcome on our visit and we had a lovely lunch in the Community Cafe".
